Poster Mock-ups

Just for fun – but we could have some sort of a promo poster, especially as part of the fundraising.

Masked One Model Sheet

Because modeling without one is a terrible idea.
Went with the body type in the maquette – just gotta check he'll fit between the benches.

Masked One new concept sketches

Stuff to consider:

- Thick or thin tentacles
- Body shape; keeping in mind how the mask moves. Should only the mask slide around his anatomy or should the bump-neck-thing slide around with it? Like there's something underneath his skin that's making the bump and moving
- I prefer him with legs, makes him look less like a stranded squid. Other views?
- Wooden mask - painted or not? How decorated?

Horny Design

Poor Horny trying to look regal and dangerous before he ends up stumbling around gracelessly.

The construction of the headpiece has started, we've got a basic wire setup done that just requires some filling of the holes with a mask and some cardboard before it can be sprayed with sculpting foam.

Link to Siobhan's easy robe tutorial here. The cloak will be a full circle cape with the blue fabric added to the edges, with the collar piece attached to the top and the leather shoulder piece (made from 3 separate pieces) laid over it.

Horny Costume Designs

Underneath there's gonna be a simple black monk's robe held by a belt/robe, long black gloves and a modified hood/balaclava that comes down from the headpiece. The big question is what's on top of that.

Quick sketches:

 1. Simple cape with indigo highlight on the rims, high collar from black leather
 2. This sort of diagonal cape with a large hood (special one to go with the antlers but it's not like he'll actually have it up) and long, draping sleeves
3. Royal cape with a leather chest/collar piece and an indigo interior
Or combinations of the above.

The design's obviously gonna bring something to the character. The 3rd aristocratic one is this a bit of a posh creepy fella, while the 1st and 2nd go more to the direction of something monk-like. So what's his story? Is the reason he's unfamiliar and uncomfortable in buses because he's a hermit, not from the city, rich? Any favourites?

Last Batch of Monster Concepts

Three or four large ghost fish flocking across the bus, passing straight through the windows and anything else in their way. Translucent, possibly glowing and foggy.

Ms Goo who leaves behind little lumps. As she calls them they come alive and follow her out of the bus. Possible integration of a mask/skull if we don't want to rely on the animatable expressions of a literal pile of goo.

Lonely giant who stands near a bus/underground station, sad because he won't fit inside the tiny vehicles.

Another attempt at the snake seen slithering rather impractically through the aisle. (Ignore that the photo is a daytime one, couldn't find a good one)

Monster Sketches

Yesterday's travel sketch dump, nothing fancy:

Stuff to have opinions on:
  1. Masked One – yay, nay and variations thereof
  2. Underbite: lean or stubby or inbetween
  3. Horn shape: tricorn, twirl, ram, whatever weird shape we like, buffalo, antlers
  4. The number of Horny's eyes – a fine place for CG work even if he becomes prosthetic
  5. Vibes on snake fella
  6. Anything really

Hughes and Human Face First Concepts

There's currently two versions of Hughes "Huge Arms" Armstrong, cute one and triangley one. Which direction do you think we should push further?
(Note: if we end up using Hughes in the final script we'll probably need to use fur simulation. So let's see how that goes.)

Some stuff for Human Face Slash Brontosaurus Tiger (click for bigger pic?). Two versions here too, male and female; I'm leaning towards female since she's creepier.

Cutesy Monster Ideas

Very rough ideas for creature designs. I'm not sure if the right direction is here but well, it's the brainstorming phase.
I'll be drawing loads and loads of these in the future; do tell if any of them look like they could become something with further development, or if you feel like a particular type of creature would be right for what we want to do.
I myself think the optimal style would be slightly more cartoonish or "heightened" than purely realistic, stretched as far as possible while still fitting the live action plate; shapes concealed in the shadows, odd limbs sticking from behind the benches, beings that would look silly in daylight but seem moody at night.

Notes for future designs (just to write them down somewhere):
- someone with a glowy thing in the chest (but tries to hide it)
- fog monster creeping on the floor
- a flock of little ghost fellas that float straight through the bus
- a creepier take on the masked one

First Concept Art

Rough concept, with colour variations for different atmospheres.

A concept for a creature that nobody wants to sit next to. (Didn't mean to do such a cartoony sketch but my realist painting skills are on holiday.)
