FILMING SCHEDULE

Friday 25th October

Sunday 29th October
I'll drive up to Manchester with the costume, lights etc.

Monday 28th October
Caroline, Milena, Tomas
Bournemouth Coach Station to London Victoria Coach Station
   07:15 - 10:20

Siobhan will meet you in London after 11:00.

Waiting for the permit but it should be as follows:
You will be able to shoot on the Underground between the hours of 10:00-15:30.
I'll post more information when it has been confirmed but you will need to report to the Station Supervisor, I specified Tottenham Court Road station.

Caroline, Milena, Siobhan, Tomas
London Victoria Coach Station to Manchester Coach Station
17:30 - 22:12

Where I will pick you up and stay over at mine.

Tuesday 29th October
Caroline, Janine, Milena, Siobhan, Tomas
Bus shoot at Stagecoach Hyde Road
09:30-14:30
I'll drive us there, set up cameras.
3 actors arriving at 10:00 then these will leave with another set of 3 actors arriving.

I'll then drop you off at the train station, 5 minute drive.

Caroline, Milena, Siobhan, Tomas
Manchester Piccadilly Train Station to London Euston

You will then shoot on the streets of London at sunset.
When it's dark, we film on the locations on the route me and Milena drew on the map.

Caroline is staying in London
Siobhan has a train ticket so is making her way back with that. (The closest in time to the coach is 23:05-01:52 from Waterloo but this requires a change in Southampton Central... so maybe the 22:35-00:21 from Waterloo which require no changes.)

Milena, Tomas
London Victoria Coach Station to Bournemouth Coach Station
23:30 - 01:40

Wednesday 30th October
Return equipment before 4/5pm

I'll be returning on November the 3rd at the latest and return the rest of the equipment by Monday.

Update on shoot details:
On Monday the 28th, Janine and Siobhan will take the car & Horny's costume to Manchester. The Underground team will take the train to Manchester, stopping at London to shoot the underground footage (probably on the Northern Line between Waterloo & Euston, stopping at Tottenham Court for the platform shoot).
We sleep at Janine's place.
Next morning we shoot at the bus depot from 9/10 till 2:30, take the train to London, wait till sundown to set out on the night shoot (at this point I'd say it's a two-stop tour, centered around Portland Street & Borough and maybe grabbing something near Waterloo since we'll be there anyways) and return to Bournemouth.

Bus Filming

So we have a permanent record:

The bus company have confirmed Tuesday the 29th of October for us to film there.

It'll be a double decker bus, company Stagecoach.
We are only allowed to film inside the bus, which will be cordoned off outside in the rear yard at the Hyde Road Depot.

I need to double check the timings as he said something contradicting himself so I'll get back to you on that but it would approximately be 9/10-2:30. But they may be lenient with this with it being in the holidays.

But this means Milena can now confirm the London Underground shoot around this and then we'll be able to arrange transport.

Upcoming Tasks in Broad Strokes

Important Things To Be Completed in the first few months:

AUGUST:
General stuff laid out so detail & concrete planning can start:

  1. Bus found
  2. Story outlined (main scenes selected & beats determined)
  3. Monster designs chosen
Ongoing: previs, modeling/programming/rigging practice

SEPTEMBER:
Final preprod work done based on decisions made in August:
  1. Sofware choises made, pipeline outlined
  2. Tools required to start work
  3. Final character designs
  4. Final script
16-17th September: Night time location scouting for London exteriors

As everyone returns to Bournemouth:

     4.  Storyboards
     5.  Colour script

OCTOBER:
Shift from preproduction to production, start of modeling/rigging. Also important:
  1. Animatic (-> composer contact)
  2. Project pitches / showreels
--

LIVE ACTION SHOOT:
Exact date in November (once the pitch has been accepted) to be decided. It will probably go something like this:

Day 1:
Train to London.
Underground shoot.
Train to Bedford.

Day 2:
Bus shoot 1.
10-11: Camera/actor/monster placements determined, measurements made, set dressed (posters)
11-13.30: Actors arrive, filming.
13.30-14:00: Cleanup.
Cake.
Check footage for problems.

Day 3:
Bus shoot 2.
10:00-10:30: Setup.
10:30-13.30: Filming. (If Horny is SFX, this is the filming day for his scenes.)
13:30-14:00 Cleanup.
Cake.
Train to London.
After sundown: London exteriors shoot.
Train to Bournemouth.

As the preproduction gets done and stuff clears up, the rest of the schedule will slot into place.

Tagging System

So the idea is that everyone can post all the helpful material they come across and by tagging it we can find it all without any fuss even when it starts to accumulate next year. Nuthin' big, just whatever we think we might need in order to find the correct references when working.

The general tags will probably be:

notice for info dumps
meeting for meeting notes
inspiration for all the stuff not created by us but that communicates the idea
concept for concept art
reference for technical drawings, real-world accuracy refs
writing for ideas and story stuff in written form

http://creaturecam.blogspot.com/search/label/NameOfTheTag is how the tags can be found, but I'm gonna try and put up some links on the page.

Startup

Heya folks, I'm putting up this blog as a means of tracking progress and sharing work, following the clever suggestion from Janine.

Laying down some basic information:

The Pitch
A visual effects short film.
What do security cameras capture at night? The film looks like cut-together CCTV footage of night-time public transport in London - except we start seeing these weird creatures going about. A big shadowy monster sits down nonchalantly in a bus seat. A creepy critter pays for a ticket and crawls to the ceiling. In some buses there are people, but they don't seem to mind the creatures at all; they're living together in harmony. Maybe a monster gets stuck of its giant horns in a doorway, and some kind soul comes to free him, et cetera.
Dark in tone but not in story, minimalist, atmospheric.

The (Current) Crew
We're still on lookout for a compositor. Possibly a second TD and/or animator. The exact roles can be discussed further.

Milena: Director/AD/Producer (possible secondary modeler)
Janine: Modeler/Texturer
Siobhan: Rigger/Animator
Tomas: TD/Lighting/Pipeline

What Is Happening Now
A. I'm trying to get some simple concept art to get everyone's imagination rolling in the same direction. I'll also post a few videos that might be an inspiration as soon as I can figure out where in the world I found them.

B. There are a few compositor calls brewing, namely Melissa and Adam. If anyone finds more people interested in compositing, feel free to send them the pitch. Hopefully one of them will come back to us with a positive answer.

C. I'll inquire First about how a bus shoot would work.

D. Once this groundwork is put down we'll have a first meeting. (In fb chat, probably, since we're not all in Bournemouth anymore.) The idea is to get the story to a point - with everyone's input - where every one of us knows exactly what they need to do next year, and thus can do what they want to prepare over the summer.

Sound good? We're not in any hurry but if we get the ball rolling now we can be confident and stress-free when the time to work actually comes.

About This Blog
I'm planning on sharing all the concept art and director's notes here, as well as short meeting notes once we start having them so that anyone who misses a meeting can get the gist. I'm gonna add all you team members as contributors so you can also post whatever progress you wish.
